ORDER OF WORSHIP
Prelude
Welcome
*Opening Prayer
Creator God, you know us before we are able to call out your name, You claim us as your own. By water and by Holy Spirit, we are made members of the body of Christ joined in mission with Christ to spread love, peace and justice. As we wade into these waters again, help us hear your voice speaking again. Amen.
*Hymn No. #
*Prayer of Confession
Forgive us, Lord, when we're just not getting it. When your call seems vague and your Word is confusing. Help us to be honest when we don't understand. Give us the gift of questioning and send us those who are willing to wrestle those questions with us. And when we fail spectacularly in our efforts, lift us up from those moments, teach us afresh what it means to live in you and with this community of believers. Amen.

Anthem “Come to the Water” John Foley, SJ
O let all who thirst, let them come to the water.
And let all who have nothing, let them come to the Lord:
without money, without price.
Why should you pay the price, except for the Lord?
And let all who seek, let them come to the water.
And let all who have nothing, let them come to the Lord:
without money, without strife.
Why should you spend your life, except for the Lord?
And let all who toil, let them come to the water.
And let all who are weary, let the come to the Lord:
all who labor, without rest.
How can your soul find rest, except for the Lord?
And let all the poor, let them come to the water.
Bring the ones who are laden, bring them all to the Lord:
Bring the children without might.
Easy the load and light: come to the Lord.
Text: John Foley, SJ based on Isaiah 55: 1-2; Matthew 11: 28-30

Scripture - Mark 1: 4-11
John the Baptist was in the wilderness calling for people to be baptized to show that they were changing their hearts and lives and wanted God to forgive their sins. Everyone in Judea and all the people of Jerusalem went out to the Jordan River and were being baptized by John as they confessed their sins. John wore clothes made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts and wild honey. He announced, “One stronger than I am is coming after me. I’m not even worthy to bend over and loosen the strap of his sandals. I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
About that time, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and John baptized him in the Jordan River. While he was coming up out of the water, Jesus saw heaven splitting open and the Spirit, like a dove, coming down on him. And there was a voice from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I dearly love; in you I find happiness.”

Remembrance of Baptism
Unison Blessing
God of water, God of us all,
We’ve brought water from our lives to remember that You are the water of life.
To remember that through our baptisms we are bound to you and bound to one another.
May we remember
May we remember our baptism when we need most to be reminded
that we are your beloved children.
We belong to You.
We are loved.
God of water, God of all, Living water
Refresh us, Remind us, Renew us, Amen.
