PRELUDE “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less” arr. Jinnie J
INTROIT “This Is the Day” Pablo Sosa
WELCOME Rev. Trip Porch
One: This is the day that the Lord has made
All: Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
*CALL TO WORSHIP
One: Some of you have been told that you were too much, or not enough, for a place like this.
Many: We are here anyway.
One: Some of you have endured things the church should be ashamed of.
Many: We are here anyway.
One: This table, this room, this community: it belongs to you.
Many: We come as we are. All of us. We come to worship.
*HYMN 353 “My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less” SOLID ROCK
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION Jim Legg
God of steadfast love, we confess that the church has not always been what it was meant to be. People have been led to believe faith meant judgement and shame. Scripture has been used as a weapon. People began to believe that your love had conditions, and we’ve watched them walk away carrying wounds your church gave them. We confess our part in that history. We also confess the smaller failures: the times we chose comfort over courage, agreement over truth, easy answers over honest presence with one another in hard seasons. Forgive us. Repair what your people have broken. And make us the kind of community that people can actually come home to. Amen.
*AASSURANCE OF PARDON
*RESPONSE OF PRAISE 582 “Glory to God, Whose Goodness Shines on Me” GLORY TO GOD
*PASSING OF THE PEACE
One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all,
All: And also with you.
WE LISTEN FOR GOD’S WORD
ANTHEM “How Can I Keep from Singing” arr. Jeffrey Honore
CHILDREN’S MESSAGE Sharon Renkes
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
SCRIPTURE Romans 5:1-8 CEB
Therefore, since we have been made righteous through his faithfulness, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have access by faith into this grace in which we stand through him, and we boast in the hope of God’s glory. But not only that! We even take pride in our problems, because we know that trouble produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope. This hope doesn’t put us to shame, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
While we were still weak, at the right moment, Christ died for ungodly people. It isn’t often that someone will die for a righteous person, though maybe someone might dare to die for a good person. But God shows his love for us, because while we were still sinners Christ died for us.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
God, this table has always been wider than the church has sometimes admitted. You set it for the outcast and the exhausted, for the ones who were told to wait their turn and the ones still waiting. We have eaten here together today. Send us out knowing that the work of love is not finished, but that we are not doing it alone.
May we be worthy of the trust of those who took a risk to gather here. Amen.
